Robert Scoble recently commented that the secret to twitter is to follow more people, that way you get to learn more. I agree that is it important. However that doesn't give you the real value out of twitter. You can get more out of twitter.

Twitter is a constant stream of chat from various known and unknown people worldwide. My interests are limited to few topics like java, jsp, php, wordpress, ruby, web 2.0, etc. And I do not want to exclude people I don't know about. Often they make valuable comments too.
Previously Scoble's way was the only way to make any sense out of twitter. Now we have a better way. You can track what people are talking about your topic of interest.

I use pidgin (instant messanger) to view twitters. You can use any instant messanger or your cell phone. To track any twitter on wordpress, I just have to type (once):
track wordpress

That is all it takes to track all conversation on WordPress. You can stop tracking a topic by using untrack. off removes all tracking.
