I just received a mysterious call from Microsoft inquiring about our Windows usage! انا فقط غامضة تلقى دعوة من مايكروسوفت ويندوز لدينا الاستفسار عن الاستعمال! I was surprised to say the least. فوجئت على اقل تقدير. Why would a 100% Linux based company get a call from Microsoft? لماذا بنسبة 100 ٪ لينكس تقوم الشركة الحصول على دعوة من مايكروسوفت؟ Read on for the juicy details. أقرأ على لالعصير من التفاصيل.

We are 100% Linux based company. ونحن على 100 ٪ على اساس شركة لينكس. We develop software products and deliver services in Java (cross-platform), PHP and LAMP stack. اننا تطوير البرمجيات والمنتجات وتقديم الخدمات في جاوه (عبر منهاج) ، ومصباح بي. اتش. بى كومة. We are as far away from Microsoft as anyone could imagine. كما اننا بعيدا عن مايكروسوفت مثل اي شخص يمكن تخيله. We use open source databases like MySQL and Hypersonic SQL, open source application servers like Apache and Tomcat, open source firewall, security software,… you get the picture. ونحن نستخدم المصادر المفتوحه قواعد البيانات مثل الخلية فائق سرعة الصوت ولغة الاستعلامات البنيويه ، وحواسيب الخدمة المفتوحه المصدر مثل اباتشي وقط ، مفتوحة المصدر جدار الحمايه والامن البرامج ،… لك الصورة. Having said all that, we use them because of their quality and not because they are open source. وبعد ان قلت هذا كله ، ان نستخدمها بسبب نوعيتها وليس لأنها مفتوحة المصدر. I have never looked into the source code for Apache and I never intend to either. انا لم تنظر أبدا في شفره المصدر الاول للاباتشي واما تنوي ابدا.

The caller was someone named Bina Das who claimed she was calling on behalf of Microsoft. المكالمه كان بينا داس أحدهم يدعي انها من المطالب التي تدعو باسم مايكروسوفت. She asked how many computers we had and asked (sounded like implied threat) why she couldn’t see Microsoft licenses in our name. وتساءلت عن الكيفيه التي كانت لدينا العديد من الحواسيب وطلب) تبدو مثل التهديد الضمني) لماذا انها لا ترى في رخص مايكروسوفت اسمنا. Fortunately, for her, I was in a good mood. ولحسن الحظ ، لها ، وانني في وضع جيد المزاج. I declined to tell her how many machines I had as it was none of her business. انا اقول لها ورفض العديد من الآلات كيف كان لي كما كان لها أن أيا من الاعمال التجارية. Surprisingly she asked about our expansion plans and if I would be willing to talk about having Windows on them. وسألت عن الغريب لدينا خطط توسيع واذا كان لي ان عليه ان يكون مستعدا للحديث عن بعد ويندوز عليها. She avoided my direct question on how she got our information. وقالت انها تجنب بلادي مباشرة عن سؤال حول وقالت انها حصلت على المعلومات التي لدينا. I don’t think it is a coincidence that I called Dell earlier today and asked for several Dell machines without Microsoft Windows Vista or Microsoft Works installed and then Microsoft’s call came within few hours of that. ولا اعتقد انه هو من قبيل المصادفه ان دعوت Dell في وقت سابق اليوم وطلبت عدة آلات Dell دون مايكروسوفت ويندوز وتعمل مايكروسوفت فيستا أو تركيب وبعد ذلك جاءت دعوة لمايكروسوفت في غضون ساعات قليلة من ذلك. Come to think about it, it looks like a nice way for Microsoft to find out companies who are planning to move away from Windows. حان للتفكير في أنه ، يبدو ان الطريق لطيفة مايكروسوفت لمعرفة ما هي الشركات من التخطيط الى الابتعاد عن النوافذ.

She continued to ask why we decided to go with Linux. وقالت انها واصلت ونحن نتساءل لماذا قررت أن أذهب مع لينكس. I explained to her politely that we get several features for free with Linux that would cost us a hand and a foot with Windows, and in some cases even that wasn’t an option. وقد اوضحت لها بأدب ان نحصل على عدة ميزات لينكس مجانا مع ان سيكلفنا من جهة والقدم مع ويندوز ، وفي بعض الحالات ، وحتى ذلك لم يكن خيارا. I briefly explained to her about NFS and NIS, shorewall firewall, RAID-1 configuration including on boot disk etc. I told her that I leave my machines on for several months without rebooting and without crashes or hangs or BSD (Blue screen of death, a deadly gift from Microsoft which leaves your machine in a limbo or worse). وأوضح الاول بايجاز الى كلمتها عن نظام ملف الشبكه والدول المستقلة حديثا ، shorewall جدار ناري ، غاره - 1 التكوين بما في ذلك على قرص تمهيد الخ قلت لها ان اترك بلادي على آلات لعدة اشهر دون اعادة تشغيل وبدون حوادث او معلق أو بي اس دي (الشاشه الزرقاء الموت ، قاتلا هدية من مايكروسوفت والتي تترك جهازك في طي النسيان او اسوأ).

As she continued to persist, I smiled and told her that even she does realize that it is a futile endeavor, she finally understood. كما قالت انها ما زالت مستمرة ، وأنا ابتسم ، وقال لها انه حتى أنها لا تدرك انها غير مجديه الاجتهاد ، وقالت انها فهمت اخيرا. We are 100% in Linux camp and happy to stay so. ونحن على 100 ٪ في لينكس معسكر وسعيدة حتى على البقاء. Anyone who can overcome the initial learning curve of Linux is unlikely to ever switch back to Windows (Vista or not). اي شخص يمكن من التغلب على منحنى التعلم الاولى من لينكس من غير المحتمل ان التبديل من اي وقت مضى الى نظام ويندوز (فيستا ام لا).

Update: I was sent an email from Dell customer service representative where she specified her contact information and informed me that she was assigned as our account manager. تحديث : انا ارسلت رسالة الكترونيه من Dell مندوب خدمة العملاء حيث انها محددة لها معلومات الاتصال وابلغني انه كلف لنا مدير الحساب. In her words: في كلماتها :

“I have been assigned as your Account Manager and would be assisting you with your purchase. "لقد كلف مدير حسابك كما وسيكون لمساعدتكم في الشراء. In case you need to get in touch with me urgently please feel free to contact me on the email ID or phone number mentioned below. اذا كنت في حاجة الى الحصول على اتصال معي على وجه السرعه من فضلك لا تتردد فى الاتصال بي على البريد الالكتروني او رقم الهاتف المذكورة ادناه.

You can call me on 080-25## 89## between 9:00am and 6:00 pm Monday to Friday, or write to me at Sa####_yo#### @ dell . يمكنك الاتصال بي على 080-25 # # 89 # # بين الساعة 9:00 و 6:00 مساء يوم الاثنين الى يوم الجمعة ، او اكتب لي في ####_ سا يو # # # # @ Dell. com for any assistance on DELL purchases.” كوم على اي مساعدة لشراء Dell ".

So I sent her an email asking her about the issue. حتى أنني أرسلت لها رسالة بريد الكتروني تطلب كلمتها عن هذه المساله. She replied and I kid you not: وقالت انها وردت وأنا طفل كنت لا :
“I have not sent you any quotations without OS or with OS as of now. "انني لم ارسل لك الاسعار دون اي نظام تشغيل او مع نظام التشغيل اعتبارا من الان. I am unaware of this call………..am sorry.” وانا على علم من هذه الدعوة……….. اسف ".

Wow! واو! She didn’t even read that I enclosed her email to me earlier. وقالت انها لا تقرأ حتى انني المغلقه هي البريد الالكتروني لي في وقت سابق. She even declines sending me any email! حتى انها ترفض ارسال اي بريد الكتروني لي! I am speechless. انا speechless.
