New York Post confirmed that Microsoft has been involved in top secret discussions to buy eBay. Apparently Microsoft wants to merge eBay into its MSN portal as part of its "war" against Google.

Talks have slowed down of late because executives on both sides are a little worried that there might be a few anti-trust issues to consider. Once someone gives them an informed legal opinion then they will start up again, claims the Post.

A eBay insider said that the talks were put on Microsoft's front-burner only recently, while merger talks with Yahoo! were being looked at.
