Landmark judgement of 1 Billion $ awarded to ISP in Anti-SPAM suit

May 13th, 2008 MySpace was awarded $234 million in statutory damages, the largest ever anti-spam verdict made under CAN-SPAM and apparently under any law. This is also the first time damages have been awarded under the California Anti Phishing Act.

November 4th, 2007 Comment Guard Pro is finally turning out to be the uber anti-comment spam protection plugin I dreamt of; everything you would ever want in a comment spam protection plugin and more, much more. The plugin itself is composed of several modules, each of which can be individually enabled / disabled, tweaked and configured all from the user interface.

January 23rd, 2007 MySpace has filed suit against notorious spammer and self-proclaimed "spam king" Scott Richter and alleged cohorts for sending what could become known as MySpam. Yesterday MySpace filed a complaint in a District Court in Central District of California, USA demanding a jury trial against Richter's for sending spam messages disguised as communications from members to other MySpace members.

December 20th, 2007 Ever since we installed Comment Guard Pro, anti comment-spam plugin on this blog, it stopped over 1 millon spam comments (1001011 spam comments were blocked by Angsuman's Comment Guard plugin in 335 days 8 hours 38 minutes. 99.338 % of the comments received during this time were spam.) so far (look in the right sidebar for latest stats).

February 22nd, 2007 Comment Guard 0.3 Beta is a bug fix release. Very occassionally the plugin would request a valid commenter to submit his comment again.

March 2nd, 2009 I got this interesting spam in my comments today: Please, do not delete the given message. Money obtained from spam will go to the help hungry to children ugandf What do I do? I figured someone who can stoop so low as to spam is not likely to donate his ill-gotten wealth.

September 28th, 2007 508903 spam comments were blocked by Angsuman's Comment Guard plugin in 253 days 21 hours 54 minutes. 99.503% of the comments received during this time were spam.

November 3rd, 2007 We are tweaking our postfix servers to offer maximum spam protection upfront with helo checks, header checks, blacklist checks, RBL's and more. So far my daily spam count has dropped from about 3000-7000 spams / day to about 15-35 spams per day.

December 3rd, 2004 Lycos Europe as you probably know has created a screen-saver which allows a controlling lycos software to target the idle time of the machines which installed the screen-savers to flood the network of known spammers. Some people are getting concerned that it amounts to ddos attack.

March 14th, 2005 I receive daily several thousands of spam emails on debt consolidation, mortgage and on organ enhancement advice/pills for organs I do not possess. I have been offered millions by unknown Nigerians, offered services I do not care about, images which were bad enough to spoil my day! I manage to filter most of them daily using SpamBayes, a naive bayesian filter integrated closely with Outlook.

November 4th, 2007 I finally grew tired of email spams, having to delete several thousand spams a day while fishing out for valid emails is no fun. Occasionally I deleted valid emails too in the process.

December 24th, 2004 I have been unable to submit a comment in a site with spam karma enabled. So I wrote a comment in the spam karma plugin site.

November 7th, 2005 Under the UK's Computer Misuse Act, denial of service attack isn't apparently a crime. A British teenager has been recently cleared of launching a denial-of-service attack against his former employer.

April 20th, 2006 The US and China are competing for leadership as the top spam relaying countries. This is a leadership which I am sure US wouldn't mind relinquising and it is improving.
