Indian IT exports projected to grow in single digit

February 3rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - The Indian software and services industry is expected to grow 16 percent this fiscal and log revenues of $60 billion despite the global slowdown, a top lobby for the industry said Wednesday. The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) said in its report that together with the business process outsourcing (BPO) sector, the revenues are expected to top $71.7 billion with a growth of 17 percent.

June 11th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - Software exports from Chandigarh and its adjoining towns of Panchkula and Mohali grew 31 percent to cross Rs.1,050 crore in 2008-09, compared to Rs.800 crore the year before. Growth results released by officials here said that software exports in the union territory, particularly from the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park here, rose from Rs.504 crore in 2007-08 to Rs.750 crore last year.

March 27th, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - While India's overall software exports have slowed down on account of the global slowdown, those from Kerala grew 43.41 percent till February-end, fetching a revenue of Rs.2,300 crore. 'While the STPI (Software Technology Parks India) figures for the country show a growth of 17.62 percent till February-end this fiscal, software exports from Kerala have grown at 43.41 percent,' said an IT department official who did not wish to be identified.

July 9th, 2009 BHUBANESWAR - Despite the global economic slowdown, software exports from Orissa grew by 39.05 percent in 2008-09 over the year before, officials said Thursday. The total IT exports of the state stood at Rs.1,168 crore last fiscal as against Rs.840 crore the year before, said Manas Panda, officer in charge of the Bhubaneswar unit of the Software Technology Park of India (STPI).

July 2nd, 2009 HYDERABAD - The Andhra Pradesh government Thursday said the state has posted a 24.5 percent growth in information technology export revenues during 2008-09, higher than the projected national growth of 20.65 percent, but this includes the inflated figures submitted by the scam-tainted Satyam Computer Services. The exports during the year were Rs.32,509 crore (Rs.325.09 billion/$6.79 billion) against Rs.26,122 crore (Rs.261.22 billion/$5.45 billion) during 2007-08.

September 1st, 2009 BANGALORE - Defying the global meltdown, Karnataka earned $17 billion (Rs.74,929 crore) from software exports last fiscal (2008-09) as against Rs.60,800 crore the previous year, registering a 23 percent growth in rupee terms and 21.5 percent in dollar terms. "The export performance of the IT industry in the state, especially Bangalore, demonstrates the knowledge sector remains unaffected by the global meltdown and decline in IT spending overseas," state Information Minister Katta Subbramanya Naidu told reporters here.

Presently around 55 percent of Indian companies are outsourcing logistic services like supply chain management and warehousing, said the study by the Associated Chamber of commerce and Industry (Assocham).

In a note to clients, the investment bank raised its IT spending forecast to 4 percent growth from 2 percent, citing improvements in macro indicators like gross domestic product and corporate profits.
