July 24th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Terming the unique identity project as a "great initiative", Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates Friday said the software giant wanted to partner with India in the ambitious project that will give a unique identity number to each of its citizens. "Microsoft wants to be a part of the unique identification project," Gates told a conference organised by the IT industry lobby, National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom).

May 6th, 2009 NEW YORK - President Barack Obama's proposal to make tax changes to deter outsourcing jobs to, say, Bangalore is 'antigrowth, job-destroying, protectionist and unlikely to raise the tax revenue', the Wall Street Journal argued Tuesday, while the Los Angeles Times termed it populist. The president Monday said the US tax system is such 'that says you should pay lower taxes if you create a job in Bangalore, India, than if you create one in Buffalo, New York.' That looks like a great argument for lowering taxes on the firms creating jobs in Buffalo, but that is not what Obama has in mind, the Journal noted in an editorial 'Obama's Global Tax Raid'.

September 22nd, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - City-based information technology park Technopark has signed a cooperation agreement with China's Beijing Zhongguancun Software Park Co (Zpark), it was announced here Tuesday. Under the agreement, the two parks will join hands in business process outsoucring (BPO), software exports and training sectors in major markets like China, Japan, South Korea, the US and Europe, Technopark said in a statement.

June 8th, 2009 BANGALORE - IBM has signed a $15-million (Rs.71-million) outsourcing deal with Eureka Forbes Ltd., a leading Indian health and hygiene solutions firm, to provide business consulting, package implementation, infrastructure and application management services for five years, the global IT major said Monday. As part of the engagement, IBM's India subsidiary will take over the IT staff of Eureka Forbes and leverage its research expertise to help improve its customer's revenue with new tools.

February 2nd, 2009 CHENNAI - Google India Tuesday unveiled an Internet bus, a mobile vehicle designed to provide information on Internet and computer to people in cities across Tamil Nadu. Dubbed as 'Google Bus', the vehicle which was flagged off from Chennai will cover 15 towns including Erode, Dindigul, Pudukkottai, Trippur and Nagercoil in 45 days.

August 30th, 2006 The government in India’s southern state of Kerala is campaigning to eliminate Microsoft products from use in public institutions. As part of a drive against “monopolistic” organizations, schools and public offices across the state are being encouraged to install free software systems instead of purchasing Microsoft’s Windows programs.
