Today I made a decision on my blogs which went in my mind like this - "If it is good for Guy & Jeff then it is good for me. I will reveal more on the decision soon but what I thought was interesting is the thought process behind this decision.

Most of the time we take decisions based on what others have done. If a product has been bought my millions of people (like Microsoft's for example) then it's surely good for me. If the person is someone I know or is notable then it becomes almost a foregone conclusion. There is a big fallacy in the logic and such thinking is prone to errors.

What we normally don't consider in such decision-making process is that whether a decision by others is relevant to my case, my unique situation. For example Microsoft Windows is being used by millions of people worldwide and thousands of notable people. However it still may not be suitable for my needs, my unique requirements from a Operating System. The herd mentality leads people to other life-changing decisions too like marriage.

For most people getting married is a foregone conclusion; the only question is when and how. It is even considered abnormal in certain countries if teenagers aren't dating. How many people have really thought whether marriage is suitable for them? Have you, for example, done a SWOT (strength-opportunity-weakness-threat) analysis about marriages, at least a pros-and-cons list? Most likely you haven't and may even consider it ridiculous. Think again.

Back to Guy Kawasaki. I decided to enter into an agreement because I figured I didn't have anything to lose, so why not try it. Only because my stakes were very low Guy Kawsaki factored into my decision. Otherwise I would have gone for a SWOT analysis at the least. Interestingly it also validates the domain I am trying to venture into. Wish me luck!

Update: Never rely on the big ones to make the right decision for you. I was wrong on this one.
