CodeWeaver's released a port of Google's Chrome browser (review) for Linux. CrossOver Chromium is a Mac and Linux port of the open source Chromium web browser. CrossOver Chromium is free and available for download here.

The Linux port is just a proof of concept. Chromium itself is just beginning. As the Chromium project progresses, they will be providing more compelling support for Mac OS and Linux, particularly with process security and memory management. Those future versions from Chromium will be better suited for daily use than this version.

No, open source Chromium (and obviously it's Linux port) doesn't have an autoupdater; that's one of the difference between the open source Chromium and Google Chrome.

The software requires wine to be pre-installed in your system. I used the rpm distribution for RedHat on my Fedora Core 6 system successfully. To install wine (if it is not there already) type this on Fedora / RedHat / CentOS distributions:

yum install wine

Google's open source chromium is not exactly Chrome browser. The task manager doesn't show the exact memory consumption for one and I sincerely hope that's not because they have serious memory issues in Chrome which they want to hide.

In my utterly non-scientific tests on Linux, Chromium wasn't faster than Forefox. In fact it appeared slower. Give it a try and let me know what is your experience running Chromium on Linux.
