Paul Adams explains how you can develop Firefox extensions using the handy Extension Developer's Extension.

The example is easy enough but don't be fooled. Developing a complex firefox extension is still uh complex. It takes lot of time and effort to develop and more to maintain, especially if it becomes popular.
