In recent version of Cent OS, it may not work as desired. The solution is to place create a synergyc.desktop file in /usr/share/gnome/autostart folder. The format is:
[Desktop Entry]
Name=No name
Encoding=UTF-8
Version=1.0
Exec=synergyc ip.addr.e.ss
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true
