July 28th, 2009 SHIMLA - Agro-processing, tourism and information technology are three core areas which the central government and the Himachal Pradesh government are working to promote in the hill state, a top official said here Tuesday. "We are exploring possibilities of new industry in the fields of agro-processing, tourism and information technology in the hill state," Secretary (Industrial Policy and Promotion) in the central industry ministry Ajay Shankar told reporters.

September 25th, 2009 SHIMLA - Telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched cheap broadband connectivity to the internet in Himachal Pradesh for faster penetration of information technology in rural and remote areas, an official said here Saturday. "Under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), BSNL has launched broadband connectivity in rural and tribal areas of the hill state at a subsidised tariff," a BSNL spokesperson said.

September 22nd, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - City-based information technology park Technopark has signed a cooperation agreement with China's Beijing Zhongguancun Software Park Co (Zpark), it was announced here Tuesday. Under the agreement, the two parks will join hands in business process outsoucring (BPO), software exports and training sectors in major markets like China, Japan, South Korea, the US and Europe, Technopark said in a statement.

June 11th, 2009 CHANDIGARH - Software exports from Chandigarh and its adjoining towns of Panchkula and Mohali grew 31 percent to cross Rs.1,050 crore in 2008-09, compared to Rs.800 crore the year before. Growth results released by officials here said that software exports in the union territory, particularly from the Rajiv Gandhi Chandigarh Technology Park here, rose from Rs.504 crore in 2007-08 to Rs.750 crore last year.
