HCL bags $350 million outsourcing deal from Reader’s Digest

March 16th, 2009 NEW DELHI - India's leading offshore IT and software development company, the HCL on Monday announced that it has bagged a seven year 350 million dollars IT services outsourcing contract from media and marketing house 'Readers Digest Association' (RDA). According to a HCL statement, under the deal, the IT giant would re-build and migrate RDA's mainframe environment to its New Jersey data centre facility.

March 13th, 2009 BANGALORE - Wipro Infotech has bagged a Rs.11.82-billion (Rs.1,182-crore) IT outsourcing contract from the state-run Employees State Insurance Corp (ESIC), the company said Friday. In bagging the deal, Wipro outbid India's other two IT bellwethers Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Infosys Technologies in a global tender floated in November 2008 for ESIC's 'Project Panchdeep'.

March 24th, 2009 MELBOURNE - Bangalore-based software giant Infosys will pick up most of IBM Global Services' multi-million dollar applications support contract with Australian software giant Telstra, after the latter's deal with the former was scrapped following TELCO reducing its outsourcing partners from four to two. According to The Australian, the decision to shift from IBM to Infosys could result in hundreds of job losses locally and in Bangalore, where IBM operates outsourcing centres.

September 2nd, 2009 MELBOURNE - Qantas has praised outsourcing partner Mahindra Satyam's performance despite the latter being embroiled in a much-publicised billion-dollar accounting scandal. According to Australian IT, Qantas corporate services and technology executive manager David Hall said despite the fraud saga, Satyam continues to service the Flying Kangaroo.

December 28th, 2008 NEW DELHI - Third party logistics outsourcing business in India will grow to $90 million from the present $58 million by 2012, according to a study released Monday. Presently around 55 percent of Indian companies are outsourcing logistic services like supply chain management and warehousing, said the study by the Associated Chamber of commerce and Industry (Assocham).

April 30th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Telecom major Bharti Airtel Thursday awarded a $500-million deal to Alcatel-Lucent for outsourcing the management and servicing of its broadband and fixed line network for five years. The deal involves creation of a joint venture with Alcatel Lucent holding 76 percent of the equity, and Bharti having the remainder 24 percent.

September 9th, 2009 BEIJING - The Chinese government has pledged more aid from the country's financial institutions to boost its outsourcing industry, officials said Wednesday. In a statement posted on the website of the central bank Wednesday, the government urged the banks to develop more policies and credit products tailored for the outsourcing business, especially for firms in the 20 pilot cities for the industry, including Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing and Shanghai.

EDS will pick up the embattled Indian outsourcing firm's IT contracts with Telstra, sources told The Australian.

May 6th, 2009 BANGALORE - Wipro Technologies has bagged an outsourcing contract for an undisclosed amount from telecom company Unitech Wireless, the IT firm said Wednesday. Unitech Wireless, which received licence last year to operate in 22 telecom circles in the country, is yet to launch its services.

"Currently 3PL outsourcing among Indian companies is estimated at $58 million as 55 percent of them are outsourcing services like supply chain management and warehousing," the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (Assocham) said in a paper.
