Many years have passed since his death. Its time to look back again. He may have been a "smartass" as they say but did he deserve to die?

No he did not deserve to die - afterall he did not actually kill anybody - obviously he was no saint but from what I have read about his case I feel very sad about this man and what he went through to try and save himself - even if he did die 45 years ago.

When you read the trial account, & the writngs
of Chessman, you can’t help but conclude that
both sides are telling the truth. He certainly
didn’t deserve to be executed for the crimes he
was convicted of. Regina Johnson crusified him
from the witness stand. Caryl Chessman was either
innocent, or if he was The Red Light Bandit, he
didn’t know it. A case today could be made for
there being 2 Caryl Chessman’s. 1 in prison, & 1
oudside. I believe we’ll hear from him in 2007.

Why 2007? Anything special about that year.

In his 3rd book, “The Face Of Justice” he states
he has placed a package that can’t be destroyed,
and is to be opened 50 yr’s to the day California
defeated the Death Moritorium. In this package is
conclusive proof that he Is Not The Red Light Bandit. It will also name, not 1, but 2 Red Light
Bandits. There are some who say this will be the
middle of 2007. Chessman managed to smuggle out
his manuscripts for books 2 & 3. It’s very
possible he could have pulled this off.

I do believe, Caryl Chessman will very shortly
finally win his battle against Capitol Punishment.
Capitol Punishment is Big Business. The Justice
System has gotten Rich off of it. When taxpayers
wake up to the fact that it costs 15 to 20
Million Dollars to execute someone, I believe
they’ll vote it out, all across the country.
In 1955, Chessman wrote that Death Row consisted
of cells 2434 to 2469. There were 20 to 30
men on the Row at all times. The average stay
was 1 year. There are now over 700 on the row in
California, with an average stay of 20 years or
more. Someone is making a lot of money off
Capitol Punishment. They’ve just about priced
themselves out of business. When Capitol
Punishment ends, I’m sure Caryl Chessman will
be credited with it’s demise.
