Hasta La Vista for Microsoft Vista in India?

January 30th, 2007 by Angsuman Chakraborty

In India several households and even companies are looking at PC’s in the price range of Rs. 10,000 (~ 227 USD). However to use Vista you need computers in the price range of Rs 40, 000 or more. Additionally the software itself costs Rs. 10, 000.

Overall it costs way above what common people is willing to pay for software, even businesses. Microsoft Vista doesn’t come with any drop-dead or must-have feature either to help its cause. It is merely a facelift here and a nosejob there as far as I can see.

It is interesting to note that Microsoft Vista’s home page for India returns equivalent of 404 or page not found error.

Microsoft’s 100 reasons to buy Vista is mostly marketing BS like - “It makes using your PC a breeze.” or “Unchain your mobile PC.” or even “Because it’s like a digital candy store.” Has Microsoft’s marketing finally lost it or simply they have run out of ideas to promote a worthless upgrade?

I don’t think Microsoft is going to make much inroads with Vista in developing countries like India.
