New laws for responsible robotics may soon replace Asimov's robo guidelinesJuly 30th, 2009 WASHINGTON - Two engineers have proposed an alternative set of laws to Isaac Asimov's famous "Three Laws of Responsible Robotics", in order to rewrite mankind's future with robots. "We wanted to write three new laws to get people thinking about the human-robot relationship in more realistic, grounded ways," said d David Woods, professor of integrated systems engineering at Ohio State University.
New software helps blind venture out on their ownSeptember 11th, 2009 WASHINGTON - Scientists from Tel Aviv University have developed software tool that would help blind and visually impaired provide navigational "sight". The software developed by Dr.

Microsoft Ventures Into Robotics With Microsoft Robotics StudioJune 21st, 2006 Microsoft Robotics Studio aims to create common technological underpinnings for relatively fragmented robotics industry. It is intended for use with a wide range of robots, from those in factories to the growing number of consumer oriented robots.
How to prevent robots (Google Bot, MSNBot, Yahoo Slurp! etc.) from displaying cached pages of your siteApril 12th, 2005 Site Owners often detest the fact that google caches an old copy of their site and displays it on searches which brings up the site pages. A simple way to prevent robots (including Google, Yahoo etc.) from caching your site contents is to include the following within the head section of your web page.
US Soldiers Bond With iRobot's Bomb-Defusing RobotsMay 24th, 2006 U.S. soldiers in Iraq are giving nicknames (like Scooby-Doo) and forming emotional bonds with bomb-defusing robots. They have come to regard them as teammates, according to the Colin Angle, Founder & Chief Executive of iRobot Inc.
Scientists work towards developing common sense in computersOctober 11th, 2009 LONDON - Though progressive in nature, yet highly sophisticated computer is no match to a child's common sense, as machines are not blessed with reasoning power. But artificial intelligence scientists are aspiring towards enabling computers to have human-level intelligence by developing a commonsense knowledge base.
Researcher invents virtual maps for visually impairedSeptember 12th, 2009 WASHINGTON - A new software tool creating virtual maps will help the visually impaired navigate through unfamiliar places. The visually impaired often rely on others to provide cues on navigating through their environment.
How to Program intelligent (AI) Lego Mindstorms robots with JavaMay 18th, 2005 A good article from JavaWorld which describes how you can build intelligent robots that can learn and show emergent behavior. It uses artificial neural networks.
Researchers operate biomedical robots from different locations worldwide via InternetSeptember 18th, 2009 WASHINGTON - Experts from the University of Washington and SRI International have jointly developed a new software protocol, to standardize the way biomedical robots are managed over the Internet. Nine research teams from universities and research institutes around the world recently made a successful demonstration of biomedical robots operated from different locations in the U.S., Europe, and Asia with the help of the 'Interoperable Telesurgical Protocol'.
Can Bayes Theorem Give Perception To Robots?July 17th, 2006 The Max Planck Institute for Biological Cybernetics is a partner in the Integrated Research Project BACS (Bayesian Approach to Cognitive Systems) where researchers are investigating the extent to which Bayes' theorem can be used in artificial systems capable of managing complex tasks in a real world environment. Computer's and hence robots today fail miserably with incomplete and/or imprecise knowledge.
AIIMS / Indian Government Ideal For DCA Human Trial For Cancer TreatmentFebruary 5th, 2007 India is the ideal place to conduct human trial for the effectiveness of DCA ( dichloroacetate ) as anti-cancer drug. Obama awards national science, technology medals, calls for advancements in researchOctober 7th, 2009 Obama awards national science, technology medalsWASHINGTON — President Barack Obama linked scientific discovery to helping the struggling economy Wednesday as he honored those who invented batteries for implanted defibrillators, mapped the human genetic code and made global positioning systems possible. Awarding the National Medal of Science and the Medal of Technology and Innovation, Obama said the United States must continue to invest in "the next generation of discoveries and the next generation of discoverers." Repeating his pledge to put thousands more students in college classrooms, he committed to spending 3 percent of the gross domestic product to educate future scientists and researchers.
Ultimate Human Computer Interface - Mind Control: Research on Mind Control & Thought ReadingJune 8th, 2007 Imagine the best way to give dictation (without spelling mistakes) or to program without typing and that pesky carpal tunnel syndrome - by pure mind control alone. Scientists at Brown University and Cyberkinetics Neurotechnology Systems (and others) have made this possible; as published last week in Nature.

Artificial skin sounds awesome, but I doubt it could ever beat the real thing. As an expert on our sense of touch, it is much more pervasive than you imagine. Our greater touch system is called the haptic system and allows us to feel the depth, direction, and duration of touch, as well as temperature, and position and movement in space. How we are touched as children affects our behaviors and relationships for life. Check out my website: http://www.touch-ability.com
