Digg: Technologies Used & Challenges Faced

June 26th, 2006 Digg, the popular technology news site, appears to crumble under its own popularity. For quite sometime I am unable to access digg site.

September 19th, 2007 Digg is down. It comes up with an amusing message directing you to several sites like TechCrunch, PaidContent, BBC News & others.

November 14th, 2008 Digg was down. And that is about it.

July 31st, 2008 Pligg is a popular Digg clone. This week has been a stressful week for many Pliggers due to a security vulnerability discovered and exploited by a few hackers.

September 3rd, 2007 Social Bookmarking is back on Simple Thoughts blog. I have added Alex King's Share This plugin along with a modified version of Digg It plugin.

May 6th, 2008 All throughout the JavaOne 2008 keynote presentation, I had the same nagging question, how is Sun going to profit from all these diverse technologies? In the end I don't have an answer. Purely from business standpoint it doesn't make sense.

January 20th, 2009 We all knew this is gonna happen some day, but not so soon! Twitter has actually reached and overwhelmed Facebook in case of market shares. Hitwise reported that as of Tuesday, Twitter, the popular microblogging service, had for the first time surpassed the market share of visits of the hit content aggregation site, Digg.

February 27th, 2006 Google has newly introduced Google Pages which allows you to create your webpages with AJAX interface (Web 2.0?). It is quite a slick product, provides 100MB of space, file uploading etc.

April 1st, 2006 In a significant (read earth shattering for Java community worldwide) move Sun has announced their decision to open source Java technologies. The JCP will be disbanded in favor of open source bazaar model.

October 30th, 2008 Simple Thoughts has 2,460 posts and 10,012 comments as of writing this post, an average of over 4 comments per post. Simple Thoughts was never intended to be a commercial venture like TechCrunch or Mashable, for instance.

July 10th, 2008 The WordPress Visual Editor is finally passable and I have switched to it from plain HTML editor. It saves you time from formatting text while blogging.

May 21st, 2009 Twitter's shooting up at a reckless pace as if it's got a nitro boost.  Figures released by comScore reveals that Twitter's global unique visitor this April had touched 32 million, gaining 13 million visitors since March 2009. Twitter flaunts 17 million unique visitors in U.S alone.

May 6th, 2009 Webby awards from IDG are out and there are some really popular names this year. Names that are going to make you happy coz it may be a case that you are attached to them someway.

July 10th, 2008 We now have our phpBB forum running on Nginx web server, a high quality and significantly better performing web server than Apache HTTPD. Soem of the challenges we faced were: We use nice permalinks in the forum so there are lots of apache httpd rewrite rules in .htaccess files which had to be converted to nginx format.
