Changed the Site on a Whim

September 11th, 2008 You all know now that Google News crawled an obscure reprint of an article from 2002 when United Airlines was on the brink of bankruptcy. United Airlines has since recovered but due to a missing dateline, Google News ran the story as today's news.

August 24th, 2005 After briefly scanning the eleven defects fixed in 1.5.2 (an interim release before WordPress 1.6) I identified the changed files. They are: xmlrpc.php comment-functions.php wp-admin/post.php pluggable-functions.php registration-functions.php wp-admin/categories.php wp-commentsrss2.php wp-includes/template-functions-category.php edit-page-form.php I am shortly planning to provide a patch update from 1.5.1.3 to 1.5.2.

August 29th, 2008 I had Google AdSense running on Health Care blog for a long time. What I didn't notice was that it wasn't making any revenue despite the traffic, and displaying AdSense ads.

July 10th, 2007 I am making some more changes to the site. Bear with my uglification / beautification (you decide) efforts.

November 3rd, 2006 We deployed an application on client site yesterday and we faced a really puzzling problem. Some data stored in session variable ( $_SESSION["messages"] ) was returning the data of a global array $messages.

March 22nd, 2009 A Google designer recently quit decrying Google's over-reliance on data, even for simple design decisions. Is it bad or is the designer plain wrong? I think if a design decision can be reduced to a problem solvable by data then it is absolutely the right way to go.

May 14th, 2006 Strangely you cannot set browser window status bar using javascript (by setting window.status) in Firefox. There are two simple ways you can enable it.

March 26th, 2005 I use WordPress to maintain this site. After upgrading to version 1.5 I was left with a theme which doesn't do much of what I want to do with my site.

May 28th, 2008 We are incrementally adding changes to our site, replacing portions of our old theme with a new one. Upgrading a theme is harder than it looks.

March 7th, 2006 The site statistics shows a healthy upwards trend, despite lack of significant attention last month. I am really looking forward to breaking the 1 Million mark, first per month and then per day.

April 3rd, 2007 I tried using eAccelerator alone and then integrated it with PHP Zend Optimizer for better performance. The result was surprising.

January 8th, 2009 Just imagine your yahoo account hacked from under your nose. All your personal mails, confidential files, pictures, membership access, and contacts being accessed by a disguised criminal.

February 10th, 2007 Barack Obama, US presidential candidate, has taken a huge leap forward from his contemporaries by creating his own social networking site, in addition to maintaining his presence in YouTube and MySpace (possibly unofficial) and other places. I just registered and created a blog to test the site.

April 21st, 2007 Snap.com provide capability to allow web viewers to get a image preview of pages behind the links. While it sounds like an advantage, in my experience it is a major distraction while viewing the site.
