Blog Ping Server List

August 27th, 2007 One of the good reason is that one (or more) of the servers you ping after you publish a post has gone down or is overloaded. When you publish a new post, WordPress automatically notifies the configured ping servers that your site has been updated.

January 6th, 2007 Programatically using ICMP Ping is a great way to establish that a server is up and running. Previously you couldn't do ICMP ping (what ping command does in Linux/Unix & Windows) in java without using JNI or exec calls.

May 8th, 2006 I have developed and use several plugins on my site, many of them are publicly available, others are not. I am presenting few plugins below which are not publicly available yet.

December 15th, 2007 Our local setup consists of a single ntp server which synchronizes time from asia pool of ntp.org ([0-2].asia.pool.ntp.org) and several ntp servers in the intranet which synchronizes from the above server. This setup ensures identical clock on all the machines on the intranet as well as reduces load on ntp.org servers.

July 10th, 2008 Nginx tutorials and examples doesn't tell you how you can configure nginx with virtual hosting when different sites are in different pre-defined directories. Often you are moving over your site from a different web server like Apache HTTPD to Nginx.

August 23rd, 2007 Round robin DNS is a simple way to load balance your servers. You can use it balance the load between multiple web / ftp or other servers.

June 24th, 2006 HitTail is a nifty utility to get suggestions for writing your blog entries following the long tail model. All throughout the day I couldn't login to their site, proving once again - If it sounds too good to be true...

August 12th, 2007 One of the main challenges of managing multiple dedicated web / database servers is the ability to centrally monitor and manage them, automate tasks which requires out-of-band access like rebooting the server or find out if the server is dying and arrange for replacement ahead of time etc. Unless you are a very big web service provider, chances are you are using dedicated servers from one or more of dedicated web hosting providers.

July 13th, 2006 We are working to provide a better mailing list for our blog readers who prefer to subscribe by email. The current provider bloglet.com is unreliable at times.

November 23rd, 2007 I learned it the hard way. Our gateway machine with firewall (shorewall) has multiple ADSL connections configured with load balancing for more bandwidth and transparent fail-over.
