Bharat Sanchar Nigam ties up with Microsoft

June 23rd, 2009 NEW DELHI - State-owned telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) is set to launch third generation (3G) mobile services in Gangtok by Aug 15, the government has said. Announcing this in Gangtok Monday, Minister of State for Communications and IT Sachin Pilot said the 3G services would be extended to three more districts in the state within 100 days of its launch, a government statement said here.

September 16th, 2009 NEW DELHI - State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) and software solutions provider HCL Infosystems Wednesday signed an agreement to work together on the National Broadband Penetration Programme (NBPP), a nationwide initiative to accelerate spread of information technology in rural India. In order to implement the project, BSNL will leverage the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF) set up by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), which has granted subsidy to the state-owned company for providing broadband services in rural areas at cheaper rates.

December 30th, 2008 NEW DELHI - State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) Wednesday announced the launch of its Internet Protocol Television (IPTV) in the Haryana in association with Smart Digivision. The company has launched services initially in three cities - Gurgaon, Faridabad and Ambala - and will later take it to the rest of the state.

September 25th, 2009 SHIMLA - Telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has launched cheap broadband connectivity to the internet in Himachal Pradesh for faster penetration of information technology in rural and remote areas, an official said here Saturday. "Under the Universal Service Obligation Fund (USOF), BSNL has launched broadband connectivity in rural and tribal areas of the hill state at a subsidised tariff," a BSNL spokesperson said.

June 23rd, 2009 GANGTOK - Union Minister of State for Communication and Information Technology, Sachin Pilot has said that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is to launch 3 G services in Gangtok by August 15. Announcing the extension of 3 G services to other three districts within 100 days, the Minister said, BSNL would increase its broadband strength to 30 GB PPS to improve services in Sikkim.

September 30th, 2009 MUMBAI - Anil Ambani-led Reliance Communications Wednesday said it has entered into a strategic alliance with Microsoft to offer Windows Mobile solution on its wireless networks. As per the agreement, Microsoft will offer solutions like push email support, chat, photo-sharing, content back-up and other applications to Reliance customers.

January 18th, 2009 NEW DELHI - The country's leading telecom player Bharti Airtel Monday launched a service that allows subscribers to watch television programmes using the company's Internet broadband facility in Delhi and the National Capital Region. Widely known as Internet Protocol Television (IPTV), the service was launched about a month after the state-run telecom operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam, announced the launch of its own IPTV service, also in Delhi and the NCR.
