Emerging after the meeting, Chief Secretary Neela Gangadharan, who led the Kerala delegation, said discussions were yet to be concluded and would continue.

April 21st, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - The proposed Rs.15-billion Smart City Kochi IT park Tuesday suffered a setback after Smart City Dubai, which has signed a pact with the state government to develop the project, said it wanted the freehold land issue resolved. This was informed in a press release, issued Tuesday by Smart City Dubai chief executive Fareed Abdulrahman, who said they were assigned to Smart City Kochi and still heavily involved in the development of the project and had not pulled back from their roles and responsibilities.

August 21st, 2009 KOCHI - Talks will resume next month with Smart City Dubai to take forward the proposed Smart City Kochi project, a Rs.1,500-crore ($316-million) software township, according to Fisheries Minister and project chairman S. Sarma. The Kerala government has intimated to Smart City Dubai - a Dubai-based company that is into setting up self-sustained townships for knowledge-based industries - that the talks could be held over two days between Sep 7 and Sep 10, Sarma told reporters here Friday.

March 2nd, 2009 BANGALORE - Umesh Krishnan, a 27-year techie employed with IT bellwether Infosys Technologies, was robbed and suffocated to death early Monday by a gang of four suspected dacoits at his house in the city's eastern suburb, the police said. 'The incident happened in the wee hours when Krishnan was attacked by the gang, which barged into his house and gagged his mouth and nose with cello tape,' city joint commissioner Alok Kumar told IANS.

September 4th, 2009 BANGLORE - The Indian subsidiary of International Business Machines (IBM) is collaborating with three engineering colleges in Madhya Pradesh to develop software skills of their students, the company said Friday. IBM will train students of Government College at Jabalpur, Shri Vaishnava Institute of Technology and Science at Indore and Mahakal Institute of Technology at Ujjain.

September 1st, 2009 BANGALORE - Defying the global meltdown, Karnataka earned $17 billion (Rs.74,929 crore) from software exports last fiscal (2008-09) as against Rs.60,800 crore the previous year, registering a 23 percent growth in rupee terms and 21.5 percent in dollar terms. "The export performance of the IT industry in the state, especially Bangalore, demonstrates the knowledge sector remains unaffected by the global meltdown and decline in IT spending overseas," state Information Minister Katta Subbramanya Naidu told reporters here.
