WordPress 2.5 Released in Error, Withdrawn & Released AgainMarch 29th, 2008 WordPress 2.5 was released with lots of fanfare and lots of defects. It looked in the trac and it said at that time that the milestone was completed 3 minutes ago.

[...] UPDATE: Owen’s comment pointed me to WordPress Admin Dashboard replacement which apparently adresses some of the issues I’m pointing out. I like Wordpress Dashboard. The name suggests that it’s an overview of whats relevant to your blog. What’s happening. What’s popular. Who comments. What important updates are available. The Dashboard should work like in a car. The most important and relevant information should be visible at a glance. Lets have a brief look at the dashboard. I suggest you only take a brief look to judge for your self whether you think the main objectives of the Dashboard page are met. [...]

Wow… Thank you for removing the superfluous WordPress links off the Dashboard. While I can understand the developer’s need to convey important news, I’m of the opinion that it’s up to me whether or not I want to have that info spoonfed to me or if it’s info that I seek out. Thanks again for creating a leaner admin index page and for sharing it with the class.

I’ve added a few of my own favorites to the Dashboard, including internal shortcuts, plus external links, and a feed of my own choice.
I’d like to distribute it on my website (above). I’ll upload the website. Would appreciate you letting me know if this is okay. My adaptation draws heavily on yours.

Much faster and it still works perfectly after the big upgrade to WP2.1. Thanks!

This excellent dashbaord replacement indeed works smoothly with Wordpress 2.1.2.
One little mistake to be rectified in line 107 of index.php: The link to writing a post should be “post-new.php” and not “post.php”.
Thanks guys!

The dashboard still works if you replace the blog stat section (after line 24 in the replacement file) with the section from the new wp-admin/index.php (as of line 100).
Otherwise the stats break due to the new way in which categories and tags have been included and are called.
