I gathered some information in terms of prediction for emerging technologies in the forthcoming year. The source of my information is from different webminars and Gartner's projection for emerging technologies. These technologies are very crucial because they will impact the organisation's long-term plans, programmes and initiatives. If companies adopt them early, they will get some strategic advantages.
- Green IT: It means environment friendly computing. Companies can reduce the energy consumption of computers and other information systems as well as using them in an environmentally sound manner. Your company can also adopt green disposal like refurbishing and reusing old computers and properly recycling unwanted computers and other electronic equipment. To promote Green IT , your company should design environment friendly computers, servers, cooling equipment, and data centers. You can also get some assistance from Green Computing Impact Organization, Inc. to compute products in an environment friendly manner.
- Social Networking Tools: Social networking sites are the perfect place to meet new people online. With the help of advanced search tools you can find users who have the same interests like you and that can be the starting point of a great friendship and/or relationship. If you have a business or site you need to promote you can do it by creating a business profile on some of these networks. You can load images, your logo, etc. into your profile and it will be visible for your virtual friends and all the users who visit your profile. You can also put topics on groups related to your business. Organizations should use social media and social software to reach enterprise customers externally.
- Cloud Computing: This technology helps companies save their money on important business activities. It also gives small and medium businesses an opportunity to access technology as a resource. Since, infrastructure is provided by service provider in cloud computing, you as an user can access the facility regardless of place and infrastructure from a PC, laptop or a handheld device. This model also improves security and monitoring within a centralized data access. Additionally, as an user, you don't need to worry about back end engineering. Also, you don't need to install the application on his system that saves you the hassle of software maintenance, ongoing operation, and support.
- Mobile Computing: The main benefit of mobile computers is that you do not have to confine yourself to a particular place. You can do your work while sitting at home or in a car. You can communicate with other people while sitting anywhere in the world. You can do your office work while sitting anywhere. You can also chat with your family and relatives from anywhere in the world. Accessing your files remotely is one of the biggest advantages of mobile computing for corporate users. The remote control program provides the ability to connect your mobile device with the corporate servers. A VPN service with mobile computing enables you to access the files on your office's computer securely.
- Virtualization: Virtualization is being used by a significant number of organizations to lower power consumption and air conditioning needs and shrink the building space and land requirements that can be associated with server growth. It further simplifies IT related operations and companies can respond faster as per business need. One of the core application of virtulization is server consolidation. Many server applications can be run on a single machine that had required as many physical computers to provide the unique operating system and technical specification environments in order to operate. Another important aspect of virtualization is dynamic load balancing and recovery.
