1862 - A mathematics professor named Charles Lutwidge Dodgson goes rowing with Alice Liddell (the young daughter of a friend) and her sisters Lorina and Edith. He creates a story on the spot to amuse Alice and her sisters. Much of the story he invents is based on a picnic a couple of weeks earlier in which they had been caught in the rain. He will eventually write this story down and Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will be published 3 years later on July 4 under Dodgson’s pen name - Lewis Carroll.

1948 - Shibu Mitra is a veteran Indian Film Director and Producer. In his career spanning more than 35 feature films, he has been amongst the more experienced Bollywood film directors. His movies were very popular in the 80’s, the most successful amongst them being Aag Hi Aag, Ilzaam, Durga, Aakhri Goli, Paanch Quaidi, Insaaf Main Karoonga and others.
 
1972 - The Rolling Stones began their "Exile On Main Street" North American tour in Vancouver with Stevie Wonder as the opening act. 
 
1973 - June 3, 1973, Jaya Bachchan married actor Amitabh Bachchan. The couple have two children: Shweta Bachchan-Nanda and Abhishek Bachchan, who is also an actor. She has lived her entire married life in the public eye, yet she has always kept her distance from the media.

1961 - Mansoor Khan (born May 29), son of film maker Nasir Hussain, made his directorial debut with Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) which launched the career of his cousin Aamir Khan. The film, a soft Romeo-Juliet inspired romantic drama, was a huge success. Coming towards the end of a decade dominated by action-oriented films, Mansoor Khan’s directorial debut paved the way back for the musical romantic genre in Bollywood.

1912 - Narayan Govind Chitre, with the help of R. P. Tipnis and Cameraman Johnson, produced a 8000 ft. long theatrical film ‘Pundalik’, which was directed by Ramchandra Torney alias Dada Saheb Torne. The entire film was shot in a theatre at Mangaldas Wadi in Bombay, where the Sangit Mandali, a professional theatre group, was performing a play ‘Pundalik’. The film was released on May, 17 in the Coronation Cinematograph at Girgaum, Bombay.
