October 16th, 2009 Jazz great WYNTON MARSALIS is to receive France's highest cultural prize, the Legion d'honneur. The award will be presented to the 48-year-old jazz musician in a ceremony at the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in New York on 6 November (09).

October 7th, 2009 Author HILARY MANTEL's hit novel WOLF HALL has been named the 2009 Man Booker Prize winner. The historic story, which revolves around the court of King Henry VIII’s chief minister Thomas Cromwell, was the clear favourite to land the literary honour.

September 17th, 2009 OZZY OSBOURNE is to receive the Legend of Live honour at the upcoming Billboard Touring Awards. The rocker will be presented with the accolade at the event in New York on 5 November (09).

September 2nd, 2009 OZZY OSBOURNE is to headline a three-night Los Angeles street festival in his honour and return to the fabled Sunset Strip for the first time in almost 40 years. The Strip will be closed for the first time ever on 12 September (09) as part of the Sunset Strip Musical Festival, which will start with Osbourne's honour on 10 September (09).

September 1st, 2009 Hip-hop legends RUN-DMC have become the first rap artists to have a city street named after them after they were honoured in their native Queens, New York on Sunday (30Aug09). The two surviving bandmembers Joseph 'Rev Run' Simmons and Daniel 'DMC' McDaniels joined council officials and fans as they gathered for the unveiling of the newly-renamed Run-DMC JMJ Way at the intersection of 205th Street and Hollis Avenue.

August 31st, 2009 .I.A. warmed up for her California weekend festival shows at Street Scene in San Diego and Outside Lands in San Francisco with a secret show in a Los Angeles warehouse on Wednesday (26Aug09). The new mum showed up over two hours later than scheduled for the fan-only last-minute show and ripped through a 30-minute set, but her fans were still thrilled to see her.

Hamlisch shares the rare honour of being awarded an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize with late American composer Richard Rodgers - and will be handed his latest accolade during the festival's 17 October (09) World Soundtrack Awards.

June 20th, 2009 LONDON - Rockstars Jon Bon Jovi and Ritchie Sambora have been inducted into the US Songwriters Hall of Fame. The gala, which celebrated 40 years of inductions, was held last night in New York.

May 28th, 2009 LONDON - Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has been given two top theatre gongs. The talented actor was given the honour for his role in the Broadway play Equus, reports The Daily Star.
