San Francisco- The documentary movie “La Vida Loca” by the late director Christian Poveda is slated for a early 2010 release. The film’s rights have already been taken up by “Fandango”, an Italian company. Represented by Wide Management the film traces the life and escapades of the Mara 18, a Salvadorian gang known for their violence and ruthlessness. The documentary received high acclaim at the various fests around the world, including the San Sebastian. Perhaps what really pointed the worth of the film, more than the acclaim of the critics, was that the director himself was killed at El Salvador a few days after finishing the film.

“La Vida Loca”, a documentary movie shot by photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Christian Poveda, chronicles the life of the Mara 18, and also the model they present to the younger generation in the country who attempt to grow up in the footsteps of the gang. Hard hitting and real in gritty detail, it was sure to incur the wrath of the “la dieciocho.” The documentary shows the gang that haunts the poor neighborhood of the 18th street. Among the three members featured in the documentary is one named “Little One,” the teenage mother with the number 18 tattooed on her face. There are also Moreno and Wizard.

Poveda witnessed seven murders in the course of filming the documentary. He had incorporated three of these in the film. One of the members, Wizard, another young mother whom Poveda helped undergo an eye operation, is murdered before the film ends. The documentary movie “La Vida Loca” is made in three languages: English, French and Spanish.
