Vimukthi selected for International Festival

November 6th, 2009 PANAJI - Twenty movies have been chosen for the international competition section while eight films will be screened in the Indian premieres category at the 40th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that kicks off here this month. "The international competition section will have 20 films selected from six countries, including Germany, Ecuador, UK, India, Italy and France," Manoj Srivastava, CEO of the Entertainment Society of Goa, the nodal agency organising the festival, said at a press conference here Friday.

October 22nd, 2009 Kutty Sranku has been selected for the Goa International Film Festival. It will be screened in the festival’s Indian Panorama section.

October 9th, 2009 Reliance’s Big Pictures has taken two Malayalam movies, Mammootty starrer Kuttysranku and Abohamaan to the 14th Pusan International Film Festival. The films will be featured in the Asian Cinema Section of the film festival.

September 25th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has been selected as a jury member at the International Emmy Awards for the fourth consecutive year. The award function will be held in New York in November.

September 23rd, 2009 MUMBAI - After screening his film "Cooking With Stella" at the Toronoto International Film Festival, Dilip Mehta went to Cinfest Sudbury with his directorial debut that kickstarted the event. "Seema Biswas and I flew to Sudbury where our film was opening the Cinefest Sudbury International Film Festival.

August 18th, 2009 MUMBAI - The forthcoming Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), starting Sep 10, will have a strong Indian presence -- while two mainstream Bollywood films "Dil Bole Hadippa" and "What's Your Rashee?" will have their world premieres, Dilip Mehta's "Cooking With Stella" has been selected for a screening in the prestigious Gala section. Jon Amiel's "Creation", a bio-pic on Charles Darwin, is also being premiered in the same section where Dilip's film is being screened and he says he is thrilled by the honour.

August 14th, 2009 Firaaq, National award-winning actress Nandita Das’ directorial debut will be screened at the Sangeetha Theatre by the Kochi Metro Film Society on Sunday at 9.30 a.m. The film is about the disturbing violence on human relationships after the Gujarat riots of 2002.

July 27th, 2009 KOLKATA - Bengali film-maker Rituparno Ghosh's new celluloid venture, "Shob Charitro Kalponik" (All Characters Imaginary), has been selected for the 30th Durban Film Festival 2009, in South Africa. It will be the first ever premier for a Bengali film in the African continent.

June 19th, 2009 BHOPAL - Vivid hues of tribal art, life and culture from all over the world found expression at the three-day International Festival of Films on Tribal Art and Culture that began here in Madhya Pradesh Friday. The festival will showcase 60 films and documentaries from over 40 countries, including India, Argentina, New Zealand, the US, Romania, Kazakhistan, Czech Republic, Nigeria and Egypt among others.

May 3rd, 2009 Veteran Malayalam actor Madhu inaugurated the 70th International Film Festival of Malappuram at the DTPC Auditorium, Kottakunnu on 21st of February. Organized by Malappuram-based Rasmi Film Society, which is said to be the first Indian film body to organize 70 international film festivals, the four-day festival will feature many films screened at major international festivals, including the one held in Thiruvananthapuram.

May 3rd, 2009 India's most-acclaimed contemporary filmmaker, Adoor Gopalakrishnan has been selected as a jury member of the international Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) to be held from March 14 to 21 at Switzerland. The five-member international jury also includes Nicolas Philibert (France) and Oliver Paulus (Switzerland), film restorator Norma Rivera Valdivia (Peru), and actor/producer Martina Gusman (Argentina).

He has also been selected as a jury member of the international Fribourg Film Festival to be held from March 14 at Switzerland.

May 3rd, 2009 Entries have been invited for the second international documentary and short film festival to be held in Thiruvananthapuram from June 19 to June 25. A press note, issued by the Kerala State Chalachithra Academy, said the last date for submitting applications is May 1.
