LONDON - Music mogul Simon Cowell’s first withering put-down has been revealed to have been aimed at his mum’s hat.

Julie Cowell, 82, who described her son as being “a determined and often difficult child” while growing up in Elstree, Herts, recalled an incident in which he ridiculed her hat when he was just 5-years of age.

“I bought a new hat and asked him if I looked nice in it. He replied, ‘You look like a poodle’,” the Mirror quoted her as recalling.

But she still insists that he is not a nasty person and does not deserve to be called Mr Nasty, adding that his brash behaviour was only his trademark honesty.

“It would only upset me if he really was a nasty person. Simon isn’t nasty - he’s just honest,” she said.

“I’ve always insisted on politeness, so when people say how pleasant Simon is, I mutter ‘thank goodness’.

“It means more to me than his television career,” she added. (ANI)
