MELBOURNE - Latino pop diva Shakira says she knew by the time she was ten that she wanted to make music and “be known around the world”.

The Daily telegraph quoted her as saying: “As a child, I fell in love with performing. I felt a deep, profound calling even then, and I knew my destiny was tied to the performing arts. I knew I wanted to be onstage, because that was where I felt most comfortable.”

Shakira recounts that her father had realized her talent quite early and had begun to get all her songs registered and copyrighted even when she was a kid.

She says: “What helped me was to have parents who were probably as crazy as me to believe so vehemently in the dream I had.

“They invested all their energies. As soon as I said I wanted to be a singer, they said, ‘OK, let’s make it happen.’

“The whole family was pushing for that. It’s very rare that when a 10-year-old says she wants to be an artist, the whole family jumps on board. I was strangely lucky.”

The 32-year-old Shakira’s first Spanish album, Magia, was released when she was 14 and now she’s sold over 50 million albums around the globe. (ANI)
