'Acid Factory' - stylish action, but loses the plot (IANS Film Review; Rating:*1/2)October 10th, 2009 Film: "Acid Factory"; Cast: Irrfan Khan, Manoj Bajpai, Fardeen Khan, Dino Morea, Aftab Shivdasani, Danny Denzongpa, Dia Mirza; Director: Suparn Varma; Rating: *1/2
By the time the chemically-zonked characters trapped in a padlocked factory realise who they are and what they are up to, we couldn't care less about the outcome of their violently vivacious life. Our disdainful indifference for the characters of "Acid Factory" comes from the enforced cool quotient.
'Do Knot Disturb' - a comedy gone awry (Film Review - Rating: *)October 4th, 2009 Film: "Do Knot Disturb"; Cast: Govinda, Sushmita Sen, Lara Dutta, Riteish Deshmukh, Sohail Khan, Ranvir Shorey; Director: David Dhawan; Rating: *
When this parody is mid-way through, two questions strike us - what is the otherwise-classy Sushmita Sen doing in this atrocious homage to the spirit of revelry, most of it situated in the lobbies and corridors of a super-luxury hotel in Abu Dhabi?
And then the second question strikes us almost immediately - what are we doing watching all these wonderful actors making fools of themselves in a plot that seems to have been written with the express purpose of extolling the 'virtues' of infidelity and seduction?
Both Sushmita and Lara wear the shortest of dresses. The size of Sushmita's role matches her clothes.
'Wanted' only for Salman Khan fans (IANS Film Review - Rating: **)September 20th, 2009 Film: "Wanted"; Director: Prabhudeva; Cast: Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Prakash Raj, Mahesh Manjrekar, Govind Namdeo and Vinod Khanna; Rating: **
Though National Award-winner Prakash Raj's flamboyant villainy and Ayesha Takia's endearing cuteness miraculously find a place in the plot, this is the hero's vehicle like very few masala movies in recent times. Salman Khan adapts his goon's name Radhe from his eralier "Tere Naam" where he mixed violence with vulnerability in a heady brew.
'Blue Oranges' - of fake art and a murder (IANS Film Review; Rating:**)September 19th, 2009 Film: "Blue Oranges"; Cast: Rajit Kapoor, Harsh Chaya, Rati Agnihotri, Pooja Kanwal and Aham Sharma; Director: Rajesh Ganguly; Rating: **
An alcoholic woman is murdered, and thus begins a process of deconstruction that takes the plot back to where it all started. It's hard to pinpoint where "Blue Oranges" begins.
'I Can't Think Straight' empty to the core (IANS Film Review; Rating: *1/2)September 12th, 2009 Film: "I Can't Think Straight"; Cast: Starring Lisa Ray, Sheetal Seth; Director: Shamim Sarif; Rating: * 1/2
It's a pity that films about alternate sexuality have to come wrapped in diverting and or glamourised packaging. Hence Deepa Mehta's much-applauded "Fire" was not so much about lesbianism as about two neglected daughters-in-law in a crowded Delhi home finding comfort in each other's arms.
'Ruslaan': Tacky film on a serious issue (IANS Film Review; Rating: *)September 12th, 2009 Film: "Ruslaan"; Cast: Rajveer Sharma, Megha Chatterjee, Smita Jaykar, S.M. Zaheer, Shahbaaz Khan, Ganesh Yadav, Asrani; Director: Mohan Sharma; Rating: *
The audience can't really be blamed if they make up their minds weeks before the release of the film based on its promos.
'Vaada Raha' a pleasant tale of emotional bonding (IANS Film Review; Rating:***)September 12th, 2009 Film: "Vaada Raha"; Cast: Bobby Deol, Kangana Ranaut, Dwij Yadav; Director: Samir Karnik; Rating: ***
This one springs a pleasant surprise. Warm, moving and utterly devoid of artifice, "Vaada Raha" is the kind of emotional drama that can never go out of fashion.
"Three: Love Lies Betrayal" - yet another infidelity tale (IANS Film Review; Rating: **)September 5th, 2009 Film: "Three: Love Lies Betrayal"; Cast: Ashish Choudhry, Nausheen Ali Sardar, Akshay Kapoor; Director: Vishal Pandya; Rating: **
The Scottish locales shot with tender care by cinematographer Pravin Bhatt in "Three..." are in one word breathtaking. In two words breathtaking and eloquent.
'Night At The Museum 2' - A guided tour down memory lane (IANS Film Review - Rating: **1/2)July 24th, 2009 Film: "Night At The Museum 2"; Cast: Ben Stiller, Amy Adams, Owen Wilson, Hank Azaria, Robin Williams; Director: Shawn Levy; Rating: **1/2
"Night At The Museum 2" packs in quite a lot. No, not from the script or pace perspective, but in terms of characters and especially their historical relevance.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Film Review - the darkest of them allJuly 17th, 2009 Film: "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince"; Director: David Yates; Cast: Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Jim Broadbent, Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Michael Gambon, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Tom Felton, and Bonnie Wright; Rating: ***
There's less of magic and tricks in the sixth instalment of the Harry Potter series, but fans need not be disappointed -- it offers a heavy dose of drama, romance and humour. Strangely the teenagers of Hogwarts are shown spending more time sorting out their adolescent problems, flirting and pouting.
Eye infection leaves Priyanka 'distressed' (Film Snippets)July 12th, 2009 NEW DELHI - Actress Priyanka Chopra is "distressed" as she has been nursing an eye infection for the past few days but did not let it come in the way of shooting for Yash Raj Films' "Pyaar Impossible". "Distressed today..
'Short Kut' not funny enough (IANS Film Review; Rating: *)July 11th, 2009 Film: "Short Kut - The Con Is On"; Director: Neeraj Vora; Cast: Akshaye Khanna, Arshad Warsi, Amrita Rao; Rating: *
"Short Kut" was not a bad film to begin with. It was probably a terrific idea for a comedy of misguided zeal - a hammy actor, Arshad Warsi, stealing a struggling scriptwriter Akshaye Khanna's great plot and becoming a superstar.
'Sankat City' - well-spun thriller, but not slick enough (IANS Film Review; Rating: ***)July 11th, 2009 Film: "Sankat City"; Director: Pankaj Advani; Cast: Kay Kay Menon, Anupam Kher, Rimi Sen, Chunkey Pandey, Dilip Prabhawalkar, Rahul Dev, Yashpal Sharma, Hemant Pandey, Jehangir Khan, Manoj Pahwa; Rating: ***
"Sankat City" is one of those rare movies that have a dozen odd characters, all of whom are not just connected to one another but even contribute to the film's main plot. This is the reason why none of them can be called a supporting actor since they are all the principal protagonists in the film.
'Bride Wars' - a comedy that elicits no laughter (IANS Movie Review - Rating: *)June 12th, 2009 Film: "Bride Wars"; Cast: Kate Hudson, Anne Hathaway; Director: Gary Winick; Rating: *
Even before this unfunny comedy got released in India this week, a Bollywood producer had acquired the rights to remake "Bride Wars" in Hindi. Why would any sane filmmaker want to model his vision on a film that has no content and low intelligence? The two main characters are two girls played by Kate Hudson and Anne Hathaway who have grown up together and are now warring because their weddings fall on the same day and at the same venue.
