NEW DELHI - Bollywood choreographer-director Farah Khan, a judge on television reality show “Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega”, has promised a group of contesting 15 girls and boys a chance to be part of one of her films.
“I have promised a group of very talented young girls and boys who performed ‘b-boying’ (a type of break dance) that I will give them a chance in my film whenever I am working on something where I can use their talent,” Farah told IANS over phone from Mumbai.
A street dance style that evolved as part of the hip hop movement among African American and Puerto Rican youths in Manhattan during the early 1970s, b-boying has now caught the fancy of youth in several cities.
Farah, who has made films like “Main Hoon Na” and “Om Shanti Om”, said the act by the Mumbai-based group involved innovative hip-hop, awe-inspiring stunts as well as acrobatics, making it “fascinating” to watch.
“The act they did has never been seen before in Indian cinema and that is also one reason which attracted me to give them my word,” said Farah.
The director added that she has witnessed some “extraordinary” and “strange” acts on “Entertainment Ke Liye…”, a multi-talent reality show produced by Wizcraft Television that is aired on Sony channel.
“There was one guy who made balloons with saliva - we voted him out. There was another guy who showed how to put kajal (kohl) using a sword - there are acts as strange as this but I am thoroughly enjoying being a part of this show,” said Farah, who shares the judge’s seat along with music composer Annu Malek.
Namit Sharma, business head and chief creative director of Wizcraft, said though the show was not primarily a talent hunt for Bollywood, they would be “more than happy” if contestants make it to the industry.
“Originally the idea was not to open that window (Bollywood) to them; it’s not a Bollywood talent hunt show. But if our contestants end up doing well in Bollywood we will be more than happy,” Sharma told IANS.
“Farah and Annu are fantastic judges and also have a phenomenal eye for talent. We are thrilled that they are a part of the show and if they can become a medium via which our contestants get their big Bollywood break, that’s phenomenal,” he added.
On “Entertainment Ke Liye…” contestants are given a chance to display their talent and enthrall the judges as well as audiences within a span of one minute. If they succeed, they are given a prize money of Rs.10,000 as well as a chance to compete on a weekly grand finale where they can walk away with a Rs.500,000 cheque.
