September 7th, 2009 THIRUVANANTHAPURAM - Ace Malayalam filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan got his fifth National Award for best direction for "Nallu Pennungal", making him the only second person to win the prestigious award five or more times. The 55th edition of the awards were announced in New Delhi Monday.

July 23rd, 2009 The state government is to set up a permanent venue for conducting the popular International Film Festival of Kerala (IFFK). As per the State minister for Education and Culture M A Baby, a Government appointed committee headed by film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, had recently submitted its report on the matter, which also proposes to start a Film Institute, a video park and film archive by Kerala Chalachithra Academy.

July 16th, 2009 TORONTO - Making a break with the past when a Canadian film inaugurated the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), the organisers have announced they will open the mega-show with a British film this year. Running Sep 10-19, the festival will be launched with the world premiere of "Creation", a film about the life of Charles Darwin.

May 3rd, 2009 Veteran Malayalam actor Madhu inaugurated the 70th International Film Festival of Malappuram at the DTPC Auditorium, Kottakunnu on 21st of February. Organized by Malappuram-based Rasmi Film Society, which is said to be the first Indian film body to organize 70 international film festivals, the four-day festival will feature many films screened at major international festivals, including the one held in Thiruvananthapuram.

May 3rd, 2009 India's most-acclaimed contemporary filmmaker, Adoor Gopalakrishnan has been selected as a jury member of the international Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) to be held from March 14 to 21 at Switzerland. The five-member international jury also includes Nicolas Philibert (France) and Oliver Paulus (Switzerland), film restorator Norma Rivera Valdivia (Peru), and actor/producer Martina Gusman (Argentina).
